Getting Started with Video in 3 Steps With DFP

This article discusses how to get started with DFP video ads using VideoJS, an open source HTML5 player that is integrated with the IMA SDK. No coding skills are necessary to use this guide. At the end of step 3 you will generate a tag that renders a player

Step 1 - Ad tag URL

Create a video line item, add creative sets, and a create video ad unit in DFP. Once you have these 3 items, with matching sizes (e.g. 640x360v), click 'Generate code' on the ad unit page to get an ad tag URL for the next step. Here is a sample ad tag URL:

Step 2 - Video content URL

You will also need video content to serve your ads on. Grab the URL of the video or upload a video to your site and get the URL that points to that video. A list of supported video formats for HTML5 browsers can be found here. VideoJS can also handle flash formats

Here is a sample video URL hosted on a Google server:

Step 3 - Generate a Javascript tag for the player

Enter the two URLs from step 1 and 2 into the form provided here . If you don't have the URLs you can use the samples provided in the form for testing. Enter the size of the ads and content into the form. Finally, click the button at the bottom to generate a player tag. A preview will appear alongside a reference URL that contains the details you entered. Place the tag on a page to render a player and play your content and ads.
